A few days ago, I was listening to researcher Brene Brown’s ted talk about vulnerability. She said that, most people find it difficult to let others see or perceive them as being vulnerable. Brene continued, “Many people wear multiple masks, in hopes of hiding their vulnerabilities.” Think about it, we have a mask for school, a mask for work, and a mask for entertaining (the list goes on). The mask, changes according to locations and situations, and they cover up the real us....the authentic us. I want us to be encouraged, I want us to be honest, and I want us to stop hiding that we’re vulnerable. After all, we are only human. Let’s administer change by not judging, gossiping, or ridiculing others; everyone for the most part is doing their best. Therefore, let’s stop hiding behind that mask and practice being authentic. Trust me, no one can take that from you. Stop caring about what others think... be true to you. Live!!!

Yesterday, I was talking to a friend and I almost shared a thought I had about an acquaintance we both knew...I stopped myself because in that moment, I realize I hadn’t the time nor the energy to say anything negative about anyone. In fact, what came to mind was “What goes around comes back around.” My thought about it is this, I would not want anyone saying anything negative about me, so why would I say anything negative about someone else. If ever you go to gossip, or say something negative about another person think reciprocity- defined as mutual action. Listen, what you give out is what you’ll get back. Therefore, be kind, think twice before you speak, and speak with love. Remember, we’re here for a short time thus, let peace and love abide.

Last week was a trying week for me and probably many others too. I mean, have you ever had one of those weeks where it’s a mind thing? Where there are days you find yourself soul-searching, self-analyzing, over thinking, and you have to fight to keep your thoughts right just so you can maintain a positive mindset. Listen, introspection is good, but if you start to feel as though you haven’t gotten it all together yet, you can become overwhelmed. I know, it’s not always easy to think positivity, sunshine and butterflies, however, I’m so glad that we get the chance (seven days) to try, try, and try again. Lesson, changing your self-talk, mindset, and thought patterns to a positive one when life challenges you takes practice. Therefore, be thankful for all the tough weeks you’ve survived, because guess what? You are growing!

I am of the belief that if the thing you were expecting to go your way didn’t work out... you’ve dodged a bullet. I believe wholeheartedly that when things don’t work out the way we want them to, there’s something bigger and better in store for us. However, no one ever thinks that way when they’re disappointed. Instead, we become frustrated, distressed and annoyed, because we’re unable to change the unfavorable results. Let’s say for example, you interview for that dream job, they loved you, they promise to call and your expectations are high, you’re grinning when you leave, happy because you think it’s in the bag. Weeks later they call and tell you, that they’ve hired someone else... How Frustrating!! In this particular case-expectation feeds frustration. Listen, it’s ok, every opportunity that presents it self before you may not necessarily be for you. Yes, it looks good, and sounds good, but that doesn’t mean it is good. Lesson, if the door doesn’t open...celebrate, be grateful and know there is something bigger and even better for you. Tip, believe...believe that something better awaits you!!

When I write, I write to encourage you because while encouraging you... I am encouraging myself. Friends, we often look at people and think, “oh, I wish I had their confidence, or I wish I had their hustle and drive. Listen, let me encourage you today, and remind you that you have your own confidence, your own hustle, and your own drive. Lesson, you are not like anyone else. Therefore, never look at a person/people and wish you had what they have. Tip, you are equipped with everything you need to survive this life. Stop looking at others and look within!

I was reading the book The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho and came across these words, “No matter what he does, every person on earth plays a central role in the history of the world, and normally he doesn’t know it.” Friends, I know that we get so caught up with life, that we don’t know now important of a role we play in it. Listen, it is time to gain an understanding, of how central you are in the history of the world. Lesson, you make a profound difference, you are impactful. Tip, start valuing yourself more, start to see that you are the difference!! It’s time to become aware... it’s time to understand that the world have need of all you’ve got to give!

The power of believing. I was pondering the question today...why is it so difficult for us to believe that there is good in the world? As children we believed we would do good, and that we could become anything good we put our minds to, but, as we grow older the act of believing wane, we become cynical. Friends, we are living in a time where it’s hard to believe that things and people can be good. Listen, if we spend our days being cynical we will surely miss out on meeting good people, doing good things and hearing great ideas. Lesson, if you’ve searched high and low and just cannot find good in the world, good in someone or something...here’s a ~Tip, be the good and believe in yourself! If only you believed!

The term "fight or flight" is also known as the stress response. It's what the body does as it prepares to confront or avoid danger. When appropriately invoked, the stress response helps us rise to many challenges. But trouble starts when this response is constantly provoked by less momentous, day-to-day events, such as money woes, traffic jams, job worries, or relationship problems.

Deep Breathing is a common feature of several techniques that evoke the relaxation response. The first step is learning to breathe deeply.

Deep breathing benefits

Deep breathing also goes by the names of diaphragmatic breathing, abdominal breathing, belly breathing, and paced respiration. When you breathe deeply, the air coming in through your nose fully fills your lungs, and the lower belly rises.

For many of us, deep breathing seems unnatural. There are several reasons for this. For one, body image has a negative impact on respiration in our culture. A flat stomach is considered attractive, so women (and men) tend to hold in their stomach muscles. This interferes with deep breathing and gradually makes shallow "chest breathing" seem normal, which increases tension and anxiety.

Shallow breathing limits the diaphragm's range of motion. The lowest part of the lungs doesn't get a full share of oxygenated air. That can make you feel short of breath and anxious.

Deep abdominal breathing encourages full oxygen exchange — that is, the beneficial trade of incoming oxygen for outgoing carbon dioxide. Not surprisingly, it can slow the heartbeat and lower or stabilize blood pressure.
Practicing breath focus

First steps. Find a quiet, comfortable place to sit or lie down. First, take a normal breath. Then try a deep breath: Breathe in slowly through your nose, allowing your chest and lower belly to rise as you fill your lungs. Let your abdomen expand fully. Now breathe out slowly through your mouth (or your nose, if that feels more natural).

Breath focus in practice. Once you've taken the steps above, you can move on to regular practice of controlled breathing. As you sit comfortably with your eyes closed, blend deep breathing with helpful imagery and perhaps a focus word or phrase that helps you relax.

Creating a routine

Choose a special place where you can sit (or lie down) comfortably and quietly.
Don't try too hard. That may just cause you to tense up.
Don't be too passive, either. The key to eliciting the relaxation response lies in shifting your focus from stressors to deeper, calmer rhythms — and having a focal point is essential.
Try to practice once or twice a day, establish a habit.

Hey Flower Tribe , it’s Kelly Lehman from Cranbury Fields Flower Farm and I wanted to give you some great garden tips on how to keep your Limelight Hydrangeas looking fabulous longer each fall season.

So here it is October in my NJ secret garden and my Limelight Hydrangea flower blooms are still fresh and beautiful . I’ve been cutting these beautiful blooms and using them in our fresh cut artisanal burlap wrapped floral bouquets that we ship nationwide and people are living them ! When they are cut from the stem in the slightly dried green/pink stage , they dry really nicely in the vase and can be used as a year round dried floral arrangement for a lovely piece of home decor .

My limelight hydrangea plants used to get all burnt out and brown by the end of the summer growing season until I started using this overhead watering trick I learned from a landscaping / garden company around the corner from my flower farm here in planting zone 6 NJ.

I hope this garden tip helps your hydrangeas look as fresh and green and pink as mine do in September and October .

Please remember to keep up with your deep root watering to keep your hydrangea healthy and hydrated . Many people forget to keep up with the watering in fall but temperatures often stay hot through some fall seasons and your plants will still need the extra water on hot weeks that have no rain .

Good luck with these planting tips flower tribe !

Rotator Cuff Injury explained by Scott Curtis DO, Princeton Spine & Joint Center
"As a sports medicine doctor, one of the most common complaints that I'll see from patients is shoulder pain. And one of the most common reasons for one to develop shoulder pain is because of a rotator cuff injury or tear. The rotator cuff is a group of four muscles that hold the shoulder together. So in this model, the collarbone sits in the front, the shoulder blade sits in the back, the collarbone and shoulder blade form to meet the AC joint. And underneath that is where the arm humorous head sits in the arm socket. The arm socket ball complex is held together by four muscles called your rotator cuff. And these muscles help act as kind of ropes and pulleys to allow your arm to do all the activities that you do overhead, whether it's throwing a baseball or hitting a tennis ball, or even just reaching up to get something out of the counter.
